Discipline, resilience, and real self-defense — for kids.

We combine practical Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with a structured Resiliency Leadership Program. Kids learn how to defend themselves and how to handle adversity — at school, on the mat, and in life. No theory, no choreographed forms. Just real skills, taught patiently, by coaches who care.

The class

We combine practical Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with a structured Resiliency Leadership Program.

Kids learn how to defend themselves and how to handle adversity — at school, on the mat, and in life. No theory, no choreographed forms. Just real skills, taught patiently, by coaches who care.

Why train here

What sets this program apart.

  1. 01

Practical self-defense — no theories, no flashy forms.

  2. 02

International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu certified facility.

  3. 03

Resiliency Leadership Program built into every class.

  4. 04

Belt advancement based on skill mastery — earned, never given.

  5. 05

Active competition team with five consecutive years of top finishes at Austin's largest tournament.

  6. 06

Full-time, experienced coaches with adolescent assistant coaches who mentor the youngest athletes.

A no-bully policy that we actually enforce.

What you'll get

The point.

  • 01Real self-defense skills, age-appropriate.
  • 02Discipline and focus that show up in school.
  • 03Friendships in a community that values hard work.
  • 04Earned achievement — belts and stripes are won, not handed out.
Questions

Things people ask before they walk in.

01Can my child start as a total beginner?

Yes — most do. The curriculum is rolling and grouped by age and skill, so new students are never the odd one out.

02Is it safe?

Yes. Kids spar only when they're ready, only with appropriate partners, under direct coach supervision. We have a no-bully policy and enforce it.

03Will my child get hurt?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the safest martial arts — there's no striking, so kids learn control, not collisions. Sparring is matched by size and skill and always supervised. Bumps happen in any sport, but serious injuries are rare and safety comes first, always.

04Is this real self-defense?

Yes. The techniques work. We do not teach choreographed forms.

05Free trial available?

Yes. Text Miranda or fill out the form to book.

06What's the Resiliency Leadership Program?

A structured curriculum woven into class — covering goal-setting, dealing with frustration, helping teammates, and showing up consistently. We talk about it in age-appropriate language; we don't lecture.

07When can my child start?

Immediately. Rolling enrollment.

I've been trying to find a comfortable home for Jiu Jitsu over the years and think I finally find my home at Johns. Great for folks of all levels, they'll push you but also make sure you understand what you're doing at a pace that is appropriate for your skill and fitness level. Recommend for anyone.

I have been taking my child here for the kids classes for the last few months and it has been great. Not only is a great physical activity for him, but it helps develop important developmental resilience. The coaches are amazing and they really help with the kids to understand and have at least 1 coach per group of kids. Can’t say enough about how happy we are with John’s Gym and we look forward to seeing the progress of our child.

If you are looking for a gym that embodies the term family, then this is where you need to train. The coaches are absolutely amazing, from beginner to advanced level BJJ the training is mentally and physically challenging. There are 3 Johns gym facilities, I have trained at all of them, and I can assure you they are all worth checking out. The Georgetown gym is a very dynamic training facility due to the MMA classes they offer along with their BJJ programs. If you are looking for a gym that will challenge you, and push you to your limits this is the place. Drop by and see for yourself.

John’s Gym Georgetown has been such a positive experience for our daughter for the past two years. Their knowledge, compassion for the kids, and consistent methods of teaching has been top notch. Wonderful instructors, staff and families as well.

We came visiting and we were looking for a gym for son to practice. We were very pleaseantly surprise. The practice was very well run by Jason. The kids seemed very receptive to him and listening well to the instructions. Which shows a good raport between the kids and the coach. My son enjoyed his time there. The building doesn't say much from the outside, but inside is well lit, organized and cleaned. They protect the mat which is very important.

John's Gym in Georgetown has been an incredible place for our family. My daughters, Hazel and Violet, have been training here for over two years, and the experience has been outstanding. Coach JJ creates an environment that balances discipline, hard work, and encouragement.

Two of our kids (7&5) attend John's Gym and they LOVE it. I am very picky about the coaches, teachers, etc that I will allow to have influence with my kids, so when we were on the hunt for somewhere to train, I was thorough.

We have been attending John's Gym for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for nearly three years. From the beginning, we have loved the family-friendly environment and Coach JJ's approach to teaching kids.

I've really enjoyed training jiu-jitsu at the gym. It's incredibly well-organized, and everything from the classes to the facilities runs smoothly. What stands out the most is how welcoming everyone is.

After attending 4 different BJJ gyms, this is by far my favorite. The skill level is diverse — a good fit for veterans and entry-level grapplers. Classes are well-structured, with a new theme every week. Coach John and Coach Chad are exceptional. Highly recommend.

I'm not sure I can accurately express the shift we have seen in our son. He takes Jiu Jitsu seriously. The guidance from the coaches is remarkable — and it transcends to life off the mats.

Nothing but good things to say about the instructors — they are first class. The class times work for working adults. Huge plus.
